Tom Oliver Sparkling Juiced Perry

Tom Oliver Juiced Perry is an intensely fruity sparkling perry made with a blend of perry pears grown in Ocle Pychard in Hereford, England. This gently sparkling perry makes a great choice for celebrations or even a casual Friday night indoors.

As per usual, Tom Oliver’s label doesn’t give much away–”Rich Sparkling Perry. Made by Tom Oliver of Ocle Pychard, in Herefordshire”. Concise.

Tasting Notes on Tom Oliver's Sparkling Juiced Perry

The only problem with Tom Oliver’s ciders and perries is that they never last long enough–although this only is due to it being impossible not to go back for a second, third or fourth glass.

The same is valid for this lovely Sparkling Juice Perry. With such a palatable mix of fruit notes, sweetness and gentle bubbles, this cider begs comparison to a fine white wine.

The wonderful thing about Tom Oliver’s Sparkling Perry is that it is a great choice for different palates. My husband for example doesn’t like Western Counties cider in general, but he does make an exception for any Tom Oliver Cider or Perry we have found so far.

Tom Oliver Sparkling Juiced Perry colour

This perry is a great choice for those with any sweet tooth, but not so sweet as to deter those who prefer a more balanced perry profile (including myself).

To drink, intense ripe pear leads, swiftly followed by pear drop acidity and then some surprising mineral notes–quite metallic, almost like the feeling you get when you accidentally bite into a fork– with a long finish that leaves the mouth tingling.

Food pairing

This sparkling perry goes well with loads of options, from sea food to soft cheeses. I enjoyed it with a nutty, creamy semi-soft cheese from Isigny S.te Mere, but I also recommend pairing it with a spiced (but not spicy) options like a tagine or a red curry.
