Tasting Notes on Hoila
Hoila Cider offers a balanced and refreshing drinking experience that captures the characteristics of culinary apples from South Tyrol. Upon the first sip, you’re greeted with a rich apple aroma, accompanied by crisp acidity and subtle floral and sweet undertones.
Hoila Cider is the result of a collaborative effort between South Tyrolean apple growers and experts from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland. The project aimed to create a premium cider that truly reflects the quality and uniqueness of the region’s apples.

Through extensive research and testing, the team experimented with over 20 different apple varieties before perfecting their recipe. Unfortunately, they have not disclosed which ones are the 3 special apple varieties used in this blend. However, we do know that Hoila cider is made using a natural fermentation process, without artificial preservatives or flavor enhancers, ensuring that every bottle retains the authentic taste of the fruit.
Food pairing
Hoila Cider’s crisp, slightly sweet profile makes it a versatile pairing for various dishes. It complements soft cheeses like Brie and Camembert, enhances the flavors of charcuterie boards, and works wonderfully with grilled meats and seafood. For a classic Alpine pairing, try it with speck or a traditional apple strudel for a harmonious blend of sweet and savory notes. Whether enjoyed at a casual gathering or a fine dining experience, Hoila Cider is a perfect accompaniment to elevate your meal.
